Yusuke Kimura

日本語

Born in Osaka, Japan. Yusuke KIMURA is a cross-genre artist, who mainly works in the fields of theater, dance and performance, but also produces installation work. Over the last few years, he has researched into the history and technology of film, and developed media performances with the aim to make both live body and the visual image of the body on the stage entangle. In the creation of I saw a shadow in the dark (2014 / Berlin), he found his unique projection technique “Boxless Camera Obscura.” Developing the technique, he created the latest work Samuel Beckett’s Not I (2016 / Kyoto).

He studied contemporary theater, dance and performance with Shogo Ota, Setsuko Yamada and Tadasu Takamine at the Kyoto University of Art and Design (BA), and studied media arts and programing with Masahiro Kobayashi and Yasuhiko Ando at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS / MA) in Japan. He moved to Berlin in 2012, and enrolled in the MA Solo/Dance/Authorship at the Inter-University Center for Dance Berlin (HZT Berlin).
